Advocacy in Action | Dental Assistance
A member had an 8-year-old son with special needs. The member’s primary care dentist had retired and they had to select a new dentist for their family. The child required specialized dental care and the new dentist could not perform the surgery and dental work needed by the child. The child was in constant pain and his dental issues needed to be addressed quickly. The new dentist submitted a referral request to the dental carrier. The dental carrier denied the request. The member did not know what to do so he contacted Purple Card for assistance. The Patient Advocate contacted the carrier and the provider’s office to see how they could all work together to assist the member and the child. She was able to get the carrier to approve the referral for services and the carrier agreed to make a treatment except for the special needs child.
