Advocacy in Action | HRA Reimbursement

A member desperately needed surgery and was very concerned because the surgical center was requesting a $2,000 upfront payment. The member had no idea how he was going to come up with the money on such short notice. He called The Purple Card® for help. 

The member’s insurance plan had a $5,000 deductible and a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA). Under the HRA, he had to meet the first $1,000 of the deductible.  Then, the HRA reimbursed the member the last $4,000 of the deductible. Our Patient Advocate explained how the HRA worked and went online to research the members already processed claims to try to find those with eligible deductible amounts.

She was successful in finding enough eligible claims for the member to be reimbursed a total of $4,000. This allowed the member to pay the required $2,000 upfront payment for the surgery. Plus, the member also received an additional $2,000 in HRA monies to cover other deductible/medical expenses. This is what the member had to say about the services received from The Purple Card®:
