Advocacy in Action | Prescription Appeal Assistance

A member was having a problem filling a brand name prescription medication she had been taking for the last 4 years. A formulary pharmacy benefit change had been made to the insurance plan and the cost of the brand name prescription medication had risen several hundred dollars. Because of the change, the member could no longer afford the cost of the brand name prescription medication and contacted Purple Card for assistance. The Patient Advocate worked with the carrier and they agreed to allow for one more additional refill of the brand name prescription medication at the copay amount so she could work with her physician and be switched to a generic prescription medication approved under the plan.
